Entry requirements and PPE

Most courses are open to beginners. You must be fit for outdoor work and bring suitable PPE.

  • Ground: EN 397 helmet with ear and eye protection, gloves, chainsaw trousers or tough work trousers, and safety boots
  • Climbing: Climbing helmet, harness, ropes and LOLER-compliant kit. Hire available on request

Frequently Asked Questions

For ground saw work most sites expect CS30 and CS31 at a minimum. Climbing roles expect CS38 and usually CS39 for chainsaw use in the canopy.

Typical durations: CS30 2 days plus assessment, CS31 3 days plus assessment, CS30/31 combined 5 days plus assessment, CS38 5 days plus assessment, CS39 2 to 3 days plus assessment, Wood Chipper 1 day including assessment.

NPTC certificates do not have a fixed expiry, but the HSE recommends refresher training every 3 to 5 years, or sooner for infrequent users.

Yes. We can supply LOLER-compliant kits for training. Many candidates choose to train on their own equipment after inspection.
